Dr. Minal Ahson is a dedicated physician leader and humanitarian advocate with a longstanding commitment to refugee and displaced populations both internationally and domestically. Her global service includes multiple medical missions to Bangladesh, where she has worked extensively with Rohingya refugees and served on MedGlobal’s Bangladesh Committee to help develop and manage clinical services within the camps. She has also provided care to Syrian refugees in Jordan and underserved communities in Pakistan and Guatemala. Her academic contributions include completed research on pediatric growth among refugee populations, with a peer-reviewed publication pending, as well as numerous lectures and Grand Rounds presentations—both in the United States and internationally—on refugee health and the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable communities. Dr. Ahson has conducted empathy workshops and large-scale healthcare trainings, including a session for 500 healthcare workers in Urdu for the Indus Health System in Karachi.
In the United States, Dr. Ahson has been a leader in public health outreach, organizing a vaccine hesitancy campaign for Tampa’s refugee community that resulted in new vaccinations and stronger community trust. She has given national media interviews on COVID-19, led community forums addressing racial disparities and vaccine concerns, and continues to pursue research on vaccine hesitancy among veterans. Clinically, she serves in key leadership roles at USF and Tampa General Hospital, including Assistant Director of both the COVID-19 Treatment Team and the Main Hospitalist Group, overseeing multidisciplinary teams and protocol development. A passionate educator, she has created and directed courses in refugee health and humanitarian medicine at institutions such as USF, Georgetown, and UCSF/UC Berkeley, while mentoring medical students and residents in global health. Her leadership and service have been recognized nationally, including the Pakistani American Women Leadership and Community Mobilization Award. Through her clinical excellence, academic scholarship, and unwavering commitment to vulnerable communities, Dr. Ahson exemplifies compassionate, impact-driven leadership.
