Dr. Muhammad Shamvil Ashraf
Strategic Planning Advisor
Dr. Muhammad Shamvil Ashraf is one of the leading figures in childhood cancer care in Pakistan and a senior management executive at the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN). He is a Dow Medical College graduate of 1984 with postgraduate qualifications from Pakistan and Ireland in Paediatrics. Trained in Paediatric oncology in Ireland and UK. Has served in Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital, Ziauddin Medical University, Children Cancer Hospital and currently at IHHN. His signature contribution is building childhood cancer treatment infrastructure essentially from scratch: he began treating children with cancer first in a single room before moving to a daycare centre and later a small hospital space, which grew into the Children's Cancer Hospital. That institution merged with Indus Hospital in 2014 and relocated to the Korangi campus in 2017.
He now serves at the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) as Executive Director of the Medical Services Directorate, Consultant Paediatric Oncologist, and Chair, Founders Executive Council. He is also working as a consultant in ZMT, a Primary Health Care Network of 33 clinics in Karachi. He has a significant role in strategy, planning, and monitoring in IHHN. He's also research-active and has published extensively in national and international journals. The consistent thread in his career is expanding free, high-quality healthcare for the marginalized population in general and childhood cancer care in particular.
He has been working as an advisor to the Board of Hafiz Abul Kalam Foundation USA since January this year, which is working for the rehabilitation of Biharis in Bangladesh camps. He has been instrumental in establishing and monitoring of HAKF projects in Dhaka and Adamjee. He has developed a vision 2040 and a roadmap for this cause. His passion and mission are for 250,000 Biharis in camp and not limited to a specific group or activity.
